Generative Tools

Organizer

The symposium was organized by the University of Applied Sciences (Fachhochschule Mainz, Germany) on 15.01.2004.

Context

The symposium presented and discussed the scientific contributions prepared by the Institute of Media Design at the University of Applied Sciences on the topic "Generative Tools" for the online project "Media Art Network". Behind the notion "generative" lurks the huge work field of programmable design. The growing and unstoppable influence of software on all areas of our social life and artistic endeavour makes scientific consideration of the matter necessary. The main starting point of the investigations into and contributions to the topic of "Generative Tools"was to elaborate the special features of the "generative methodology", organize them historically, and present them in their most diverse areas of application. The project "Media Art Network" is a group project involving the Centre for Art and Media Technology (ZKM), Karlsruhe, the Goethe Institute, and the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). All the lectures were conducted in German.
