Migrating Images - Reading and Translating Images Transculturally

Organizer

The symposium "Migrating Images - Reading and Translating Images transculturally" was organized by the House of World Cultures, Berlin, and held in the House on 7/8 November 2003.

Context

An incessant stream of new images, assailing us daily in everyday culture, film, and the creative arts, has led to an exponential expansion of the image cosmos. Precisely in our "visual age", images are, despite their seemingly immediate accessibility, not uniformly intelligible for viewers from different cultural areas, thus requiring translation. The speakers, comprising art historians, curators, and art and media scholars, discussed how images can be produced, presented, read and translated today.
