Abstract
The mixed-reality environment is composed of a stage, a Video wall or a Virtual Studio and an intuitive interface to the Internet. The installation superimposes physical and audio-visual virtual space and is perceived as a room furnished with data. The interactive installation entitled "Murmuring Fields" is a mixed reality environment where virtual and real space are linked to each other as independent reference levels for action and perception using an intuitive interface (bodytracking). In the interactive sound space known as "Murmuring Fields", participants can trigger sounds with their movements.
The camera of the bodytracking system monitors movement within the space. The electronic Multi-User Stage Environment (eMUSE) calculates the positional data for representing the participants as a gestural body in the virtual space of the Murmuring Fields. The real body controls the data body, which moves around in the virtual space. The participants therefore perceive the Murmuring Fields as an instrument that can be played using the body.
The experience of space thus becomes inextricably linked to the body's motor mechanisms, since this experience is a direct consequence of intuitive bodily actions that are initiated through the exchange with the virtual space. The medial space becomes a real action space, with the medial space stimulating the perception of one's own corporeality.
