Abstract
The Research Group MARS develops Knowledge Discovery Tools in order to visualize complex databases as information spaces and make them accessible as knowledge spaces.
The Knowledge-Explorer is a tool designed for communities of experts. Here, experts can file personal knowledge cards and share them with other members of the community, enabling them to access unknown information pools. The Knowledge-Explorer is the basic tool to establish collaborative knowledge spaces that combine the knowledge of experts of different professional fields.
The Knowledge Map System can be accessed to explore archival content online via the Internet platform netzspannung.org. A selected community of experts is testing a prototype of the Knowledge Explorer.
Approach:
We have created a Knowledge Map System that structures heterogeneous data on the basis of their semantic contexts. Two knowledge discovery interfaces offer different access: The Semantic Map merges data in clusters, facilitating the examination of interdisciplinary data-connections on the basis of their semantic relationship.
The Timeline Interface organizes data-contents parallel into different categories on a timeline, revealing the chronological relationships between the various fields of content.
